Organized by the Mohammed bin Zayed Council .. Saif bin Zayed attends the lecture “Aging … its causes and the possibility of prevention”
Lt. General H.H. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, attended the third lecture organized by the Mohammed bin Zayed Council during the Ramadan season for this year, under the title “Aging…its causes and the possibility of prevention, which It was delivered by Professor David Sinclair at Harvard Medical School, a specialist in molecular genetics and co-director of the Paul F. Glenn Center for Research in the Biology of Aging. The lecture was also attended by His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan,
Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, and a number of ministers, senior officials and representatives of a number from health authorities in the country.
The lecturer praised the experience of the UAE, especially at the level of the “Emirati Genome Program”, which is the ambitious national project that aims to use genetic data to improve the public health of Emiratis, stressing that what is being achieved in the UAE in sectors such as space and artificial intelligence adds to its balance and qualifies it to lead over global level.
Professor David shed light on the scientific reasons for aging, how to know the biological age of a person, and the extent of the possibilities of healing from aging or delaying its factors, “according to the theory that it considers a disease that can be cured and not an inevitable condition,” in addition to what the future holds for humans at the level of health. And raising the average life span and the economic and social effects of this scientific progress.
Dr. Sinclair also talked about the “information theory of aging”, which says that it results from information loss rather than cellular damage, which Sinclair calls “epigenetic noise”, as it leads to random assembly of DNA, so cells read the wrong genes at the wrong time and lose their identity to become senescent cells Aging causes, referring to what was published in the journal “The Cell” that the reason behind these changes is what is called DNA refraction, which leads to the loss of information that communicates to cells how to control their genes, and this process is what we call aging.
Dr. David Sinclair believes that aging is not inevitable, but rather a treatable condition, and there is no law in biology that stipulates the inevitability of aging at this rate, pointing to the continuous increase in the number of scientists who believe in this theory because they have become more able to understand the reason for progress in Age and how to delay aging.
He pointed to the gains and positive effects on the economic and social levels, which will be reaped by the first country that can delay the aging of its citizens.
He said: The goal of all of us now should be to survive until the emergence of age-reversing technologies and the best way is to put the body in a state of perceived challenge by eating less, eating the right foods, exercising and taking supplements and medications that have been shown to delay the effects of aging. .
The lecture will be broadcast tomorrow on the Emirates Channel and local TV channels, in addition to the Mohammed bin Zayed Majlis YouTube channel, at approximately 5:30 pm.
